5 Interesting Facts About Lizard Buzzards

Lizard Buzzard

Here is a lizard buzzard looking for a snack to eat

I really like lizards and raptors, so tonight I am writing about a cool species called the lizard buzzard.

Here are five interesting facts about them:

  1. These small raptors grow up to 37 cm long and have a wingspan of just 80 cm.
  2. Despite its name, they are more closely related to hawks than buzzards.
  3. Lizard buzzards hunt from perches, sitting on high branches and telegraph poles.  They carefully watch the ground and swoop down to catch lizards, mice, grasshoppers and frogs.
  4. At breeding time, both parents help to build their nest out of sticks.  The female lays 1-3 eggs and the male does most of the hunting to feed the chicks and mum after they hatch.
  5. Lizard buzzards live in woodland areas throughout sub-Saharan Africa and there is a very large number of them throughout most of their range.

I hope that you found these facts interesting and learned something new.
